South Bank Ramblers

Saturday 10/08/2024 - GAINSBOROUGH LINE STAGE-3 - BURES TO SUDBURY - Leader: Dave H

The "Gainsborough Line" is a railway branch line linking Marks Tey in Essex with Sudbury in Suffolk. We shall
explore the countryside around this route, known to the painter Gainsborough. Pleasant scenery with much of the
walk along the Stour Valley footpath. This section of the Gainsborough Line crosses the Sudbury Common
Lands, a traditional pastoral landscape which has the longest recorded history of continuous grazing in East
Anglia. Gainsborough Line section 4 will be on Saturday 24th August. Apart from toilets on the train there are no
toilets until the finish of the walk at Sudbury.
Lunch: Picnic only. Plenty of cafes and pubs at the end of the walk in Sudbury.
