South Bank Ramblers

Saturday 19/10/2024 - WOOLWICH CIRCULAR VIA THAMES PATH ABBEY WOOD AND PLUMSTEAD COMMON - Leader: Ann C

We take the Thames Path East from Woolwich as far as Thamesmead, then the Green Chain to Lesnes Abbey
for lunch. After lunch we climb up through Abbey Wood and Bostall Woods to Plumstead Common, then descend
through Woolwich to Woolwich Station. A varied walk through a mix of landscapes - flat, easy walking in the
morning with Thames views and big skies; a substantial climb on rough paths through autumn woods in the
afternoon until we find ourselves high above the Thames on Plumstead Common. Pace will be moderate with
occasional stops to look at bits of history. Toilets are available at Woolwich Works near the start, then at Lesnes
Abbey at lunchtime. Lunch: Picnic at Lesnes Abbey where there is a kiosk and toilets. Kiosk is usually very busy
so bring food.
