Sat 01 AUG 2026 - ROMAN TOWN OF CALLEVA - MORTIMER TO ALDERMASTON  - Mark B

Stratfield Mortimer, the route follows the Foundry Brook and onwards to the amphitheatre and the 2.5km of Roman walls surrounding the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatu. The site has benefitted from recent clearance by English Heritage and local volunteers. The lunch stop is at a pub on Silchester Common and the afternoon route is mainly through woods of Scots pine, and commons of gorse and birch trees. Aldermaston, the final destination, is reached over the weirs of the River Kennet. The walk will be at a moderate to brisk pace but with breaks to view Calleva remains.
