Sat 24 November 2018 - 8 miles - ENJOY A SEAFOOD LUNCH ON THE THAMES ESTUARY - Leader: Gill F

From Benfleet the route is on downs to the ruins of Hadleigh Castle and Leigh on Sea. Return is along the estuary. Lunch: Cafe/pub/ picnic at Leigh on Sea.

Ruins of Hadleigh Castle, which begun in about 1215 by Hubert de Burgh, but extensively refortified by Edward III during the Hundred Years War, becoming a favourite residence of the ageing king.
