South Bank Ramblers

16 NOV 2019 - 9 miles - Welwyn North - Leader: Mike J

At moderate pace, mostly through woods and fields. Beautiful countryside throughout, with some great panoramic views. No lengthy climbs or stiles.
(As the train approaches Welwyn North, it crosses the Digswell viaduct, a magnificent Grade II* listed structure nearly ½ km long, 30 metres above ground level, and with 40 arches. We shall gaze at the viaduct from the ground just a few minutes after the start of the walk).
The walk passes Tewin, one of the oldest villages in Hertfordshire where, depending on numbers, we can stop for tea/coffee/loo. (Using the facilties on the train are recommended as there will only be alfresco opportunities after Tewin).
Then through more rural delights, passing the late 16thC Queen Hoo Hall. Shortly after that, we stop for lunch. Only some stumps and fallen trees or the ground to sit on, so probably 30 minutes at most. After lunch we continue across fields and through woods, and back to the station.
