This year’s South Bank Ramblers Annual General Meeting was both a great success and a heartwarming celebration of the group’s 40th anniversary. Held on Sunday, 9 November 2025, at The Windmill in Windmill Gardens, Brixton Hill, the event brought together over 40 members for an afternoon filled with laughter, memories, and plenty of homemade treats.

The day began with two morning walks — Earlsfield to Brixton Windmill and Sydenham Hill to Brixton Windmill — both finishing at the historic Brixton Windmill, where walkers gathered for the AGM and celebration.

Originally founded in September 1985 as the South West London Group (renamed South Bank in 1991), the group has grown into one of London’s most active and welcoming Ramblers groups. To mark this milestone, committee member Dave Hetherngton delved into the archives to display photos and documents from the past four decades, sparking fond memories and lively conversations.

The afternoon was as much a social occasion as a formal one. Members and committee volunteers baked cakes, cookies, and other delicious treats — with a specially made birthday cake created by committee member Gail Bourne, which became the centrepiece of the celebration. The room was filled with warmth, laughter, and the buzz of conversation as fellow walkers reconnected and reflected on the group’s shared journey.

It was a fitting tribute to forty years of walking, friendship, and community spirit — and a reminder that South Bank Ramblers is about far more than just walking miles; it’s about walking together.
Here’s to the next 40 years!
