South Bank Ramblers

Instructions for submitting a Ramblers walk for South Bank Group

Log-in to your Ramblers account.
Scroll down to Your Volunteering.
Click on Walks Manager
You will get another log-in screen and have to log-in again – annoying but hopefully
Ramblers will fix this.
Click on Calendar View at top of screen.
Check that there isn’t already a walk on the date you want.
If you want a Saturday, we can have two walks as long as they are sufficiently
different, e.g. one is a short city walk and the other a longer country walk.
If you have a query about a particular date please contact the Walks Team.

Additional Notes on layout for South Bank Group’s walks:

Walk Title
Use all capitals for the title.
Make sure the title includes the start and end points, linear or circular and
country/London
e.g. CELANDINE TRAIL ALONG THE RIVER PINN – PINNER TO UXBRIDGE
(LINEAR) – LONDON

Description
Give a brief description of the walk, including info on toilet stops and drop-out points
(if applicable).

Lunch: - show this heading in bold type.
If there is a pub stop make sure it is made clear whether it is for food or just drinks,
e.g. bring picnic - pub for drinks/loos only.

Train: - show this heading in bold type.
Give train info and, if applicable, tickets, e.g. ‘buy return to Brighton’; or ‘Freedom
pass holders buy return from Swanley’.

Facilities: Accessibility and Transport options:
only select Accessible by Public Transport.

Information about toilets – or lack of them – should be given in the walk description,
e.g. ‘use toilets on the train’ or ‘no loos until lunch time’. This is to avoid raising
expectations about availability of toilets.
The same applies to refreshments – give details in the lunch info.

Photos:  We are not adding photos to walk details at present - some copyright issues have
been raised.

Location
Starting Point: – this should be a station (Tube, Nat Rail, DLR, Overground,
Elizabeth Line).
Underneath the map there is a box Location Details.
Put the train station name again here.
If you have any extra info you want to give about the meeting point include it here,
e.g. ‘meet outside Costa coffee in front of station’.
If you want to include a map number (not compulsory), put it here.

If you are adding a linear walk, fill-in the details for the starting point, then before
clicking the Save and continue box, go back and click on Finishing Point and
enter the details.

Walk Grading
Only select ‘easy’, ‘moderate’ or ‘strenuous’.

Ascent
Leave blank as not really applicable to South Bank’s walks. If a walk is hilly or has a
particularly steep hill, this should be highlighted in the walk description.

Estimated Finishing Time
This must be given. Note, if unsure about the finishing time, it is best to
overestimate how long the walk will take.

Check your walk details

Once you have entered all the walk details, you will be presented with a Preview Screen.
Please check over your walk details before clicking Submit for Checking.

In particular, check the Get in touch about this walk box which should look something like this:-
GetInTouch.jpeg
If either your name or your mobile phone number is not shown, this means you have not updated your contact preferences correctly.  To find out how to do this please click on Update your contact preferences.

The Walks Team will then check the details in the next few days (note the system

does not automatically email the Walks Team that a walk has been submitted).
If there are any queries, the Walks Team will contact you. If the details are fine, the
walk will be published.
